Cherry Blossom Season

They're here. Popping up all over Sydney. It's a very brief window in Sydney - 2-3 weeks, but so pretty when you see the burst of pink in your neighbourhood.

For me there is a special buzz when I see that first one!

Today I'll pop out to our tree lined street in the 'hood so see if they're in full bloom yet...

Do you have cherry blossom where you are?

Have you seen them in Japan? We were out of the full season but still saw plenty here.

Bear Season

When I was up north in Japan, I suddenly realised I was in bear country. A quick google showed the bears came right into town. I read all about what I should do if I saw a bear and my panic grew (I am carrying a lot more past trauma than I realised from the Polar Bear incident). I had thought I'd walk to the station early in the morning, but as the web advice recommend waiting until 8, I worked myself into a panic. I then decided I would get a taxi, even though it was only a 10 minute walk (I had been told it was a 15 minute walk and google maps thought it was 22 for some daft reason).

I asked at reception and told him I was scared of bears (not lazy) and he laughed but humoured me. The shuttle bus driver dropped me off as it was that close that he could be back for his pick up time (it was minutes in the car). As I watched all the school kids arrive on their own, I was embarrassed. More so when I walked home and discovered it was probably 5 minutes - 6 minutes walk at the most!

In my defence, even the tourist office in town had bear signs!

At a number of the sculpture gardens, I played music and stomped about as loudly as I could (in lieu of bear bells). I was constantly looking around in a panic, as I was the only person in the woods more often than not.

The thing is, I don't live in a place with bears so I didn't realise quite what a problem I had. It doesn't come up. It is something to keep in mind for future travels.

This is a bear bin (and snow) and was in the middle of town. So it was not all in my head. And the app confirmed my worries!

Lights out and #Allseasons house keeping

Alas VIVID is done and dusted for another year.

Always a little sad.

The city suddenly seems a little dull, or the mood drops as we start to focus on reality a little more...

I spent the last night dancing away at Carriageworks - Golden Features and Porter DJ - both excellent. And the crowd was so wholesome - singing their hearts out. mindful of body contact even in a massive crush. All around perfect and great vibes!

I've been getting up and watching the last half of the morning game for the World Cup. Unfortunately I'll miss the 2 games today as I've organised a lunch, well in advance before I made the connection with what was happening today.

Anyway, the house keeping. is the last #Allseasons before I shut the blog for a month. The blog will shut from 26 June to 26 July.

I'm off travelling in July, however, I'm off to Dark Mofo this weekend so the comments & posts won't get looked at until next week. I am very excited!

Hope you are all enjoying your Summer, Winter, World Cup or Dark Mofo - whatever seasonal event is bringing you sparks of joy! (I had to share the gorgeous cakes from Koi that were at VIVID)

Sunrise or Sunset

With the shorter days, it seems to always be sunrise or sunset on my dog walks.

My husband is back from Morocco and feeling the cold on days which I think are warm and sunny for a change (as he missed the cold snap and all the rain).

I'm rugged up, especially on the days I'm out at VIVID or walking to the theatre.

Winter is officially here.
